About First Presbyterian Church

Our Mission

The First Presbyterian Church believes its mission is to be a family under the Lordship of Jesus Christ for the sake of loving relationships and mutual support and to show Christ’s healing love beyond our family through words and deeds, to the glory of God.

Our Services

Sunday School - 10:00 am 

A time of learning and spiritual growth


Sunday Worship - 11:00 am 

Join us for traditional worship, where we gather as a community to praise God and reflect on His Word.


Contemporary Worship - Second Saturday of the month, 7:00 pm 

A relaxed and modern service with uplifting music and relevant messages.


Sunday Youth Group - 6:00 pm 

A space for youth to connect, share, and grow in their faith.


Friendsday Wednesday - Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, 6:00 pm Join us for a meal and fellowship with our church family and friends.


"Practicing the Way" Christian Study - Every other Wednesday, 5:00 pm A time to dive deeper into the teachings of Jesus and grow in discipleship.

Our History

Founded in the 19th century, First Presbyterian Church has been a cornerstone of faith, tradition, and service for generations. Our history reflects the dedication of our church family to living out the gospel in both word and deed. Through challenges and change, we’ve remained faithful to our core values of love, community, and service, continually seeking to innovate while staying grounded in the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

Ways to Engage

The Power of Prayer

Prayer is our direct line to God, offering His guidance, support, and strength. In both joy and struggle, it brings comfort, peace, and clarity. Prayer helps us face stress, anxiety, and challenges, reminding us we are never alone.

Youth Group

Faith is a personal conviction that goes beyond what we can see or prove, rooted in religion, spirituality, or personal experiences. Our youth group is a vibrant and welcoming community of young people growing in their faith together. We invite you to join us on Sunday evenings at 6 PM for connection, learning, and fun.

Missions

Throughout the year, our Missions Committee actively encourages members to volunteer and make a difference in our community:

  • Habitat for Humanity: In 2024, FPC contributed time and energy to two builds - one in Aberdeen, NC, and another in Rockingham.
  • Hamlet Soup Kitchen: We serve meals to those in need and are implementing our $0.10/meal program to increase funding for this vital local ministry.
  • Ramen Noodles Collection: Join us every third Sunday as we collect ramen noodles for the local Food Bank.
  • Valentine Collection: In February, our Women of the Church sponsor a collection of personal items for area group homes.
  • Advent and Christmas Initiatives: We support our local community through various collections, including:
    • New Shoes for Kids
    • Angel Tree: Collecting items for power assistance, distributed by Woody and Neal.
    • White Bags: Non-perishable food items collected and delivered to those in need.

Together, we strive to show Christ’s love through our service and outreach!

What's Happening!

Supporting Cordova Middle School


A big thank you to Neal, Trudy, and Holden for delivering 26 white bags of food to Cordova Middle School on behalf of First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham. 


This effort reflects our commitment to serving our community and sharing God’s love through tangible acts of kindness. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this delivery possible. Together, we are making a difference!
